When people think about Hypnotherapy, they generally conjure up images of pocket watches swinging and then their need for cigarettes and chocolate completely disappearing, like magic. Am I right? But did you know that Hypnotherapy is very effective for anxiety? It’s becoming, and is (especially in my clinic), one of the most common issues that people present with for help.

When we are anxious, we may feel worried about what is going to happen. We fill ourselves with anguish about scenarios we are imagining in the future that haven’t even happened yet. We also worry about the past, whether we have said the right thing, what is going on presently – the list goes on. In some situations, a little bit of anxiety is normal. However, when it starts to rule your life, it can become very unpleasant. Although anxiety is made up of negative thinking, our bodies can also respond to anxiety physically, and you may be seeing symptoms such as poor sleep, panic attacks and habits manifesting themselves.

According to Mind (2022) 1 in 6 people will experience a common mental health condition such as anxiety in any given week. These figures are astonishing, and I have definitely observed a rise in anxiety since the pandemic within my clients. Anxiety can be a vicious circle that can be hard to get out of if you don’t know how. This is where Hypnotherapy comes in. There are many types of Hypnotherapy, and the one I am talking about in particular is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This is a combination of therapy and hypnosis, based on recent neuroscience – there’s definitely no pocket watch involved! It helps to give you a different perspective upon life, retune your neural pathways, and resolve those negative anxious thoughts, thus breaking the anxiety cycle. The hypnosis is total mind relaxation, which helps us to engrain the therapy at a subconscious level! Throughout the sessions you are completely in control, and people generally find them both uplifting and positive.
